How Do You Get Rid Of Bed Bugs?

Watch out for the bed bugsBedbugs are small, tiny critters that live in crevices, furniture, clothing, boxes, and travel in luggage. They move between hotels, houses and apartments using luggage and clothes and are particularly fond of bed frames and mattresses.

At one time bed bugs were not as big of a pest as they are now, because there were lots of insecticides being used and sanitation was better. In recent years, there’s been an increase in the use of bait rather than insecticide spray for ants and cockroaches, and as result, bug infestations have increased.

treat bed bugs naturally, where do bed bugs come fromBedbugs turn up wherever sanitary conditions are lacking, or if there are mammals nesting or birds near house. International travelers have also helped spread insects with their luggage as young and adult bedbugs transport easily in luggage, clothing, bedding and furniture.

They are different kinds of bedbugs, but all of them are pests when it comes to human beings and domestic animals. First, there’s the common bedbug. This one prefers human hosts and lives in mattresses and headboards. There is also a bird bug and a bat bug which prefers to feed on bats and birds respectively. While their first choice might be bats and birds, these critters will also happily feed on human beings if the opportunity presents itself.

Some of the ways to get rid of bed bugs is to reduce junk and clutter in an area where you think that bedbugs have moved in. You will also want to dismantle your bed frames and expose any place that you think a bedbug would hide. This includes small dark places, under beds and in stacks of clothing. Be sure and stand your box spring up on end, and shine a flashlight through the gauze fabric to see if you see any bedbugs. If the fabric is torn, it can become and excellent hiding place so you will want to remove the torn from fabric prior to spraying.

If you find bedbugs in your linens and garments, they can’t be treated with insecticides. You’re going to want to launder them in very hot water or heat treat for several minutes in a clothes dryer. Take a vacuum cleaner and vacuum the area where the bedbugs are living using the vacuum attachment, and run it along baseboards near the bed stands, particularly along where the tack strips are placed.

Get some caulk and seal the crevices and cracks in the exterior of your building, and also repair your outdoor screens to keep out rodents, bats and birds that serve as alternative hosts for bedbugs. If you take all these measures, you will stand a good chance of getting rid of your bed bug problem permanently.
